Estetyka i etyka performansów ORLAN jako odpowiedź na idealizację ciała w kulturze przyszłości

  1. Małgorzata Dancewicz

The aesthetics and ethics of ORLAN’s performances as a response to the idealisation of the body in the culture of the future

The article examines the work of the French performance artist ORLAN in the context of contemporary artistic projects operating on the margins of art and biology. Transforming herself into a unique object/subject of public debate, always in opposition to something or between something — classic perception of beauty in Western European culture, transhumanism, eugenics, plastic surgery — ORLAN is presented here as a prophetic visionary, whose projects, consistently moving from performance to bioart, herald a new direction in the development of art.
